Couperose
Visibly dilated capillaries, patchy redness, feelings of heat and tightness: vascular instability of the skin, also known as couperose or rosacea, is much more than just a cosmetic flaw. Couperose refers to a genetically determined dilation of the blood vessels in the face. Initially, there is temporary ‘flushing’ with an unpleasant feeling of heat, followed by persistent, butterfly-shaped redness of the skin. In advanced stages, swelling and nodules (papules) may develop in addition to the persistent redness. The effects of couperose often have a severe impact on those affected.
